I hope everyone and their families had a Merry Christmas!
I was planning on writing a special article just for christmas, but you know how it is when you have family over… cleaning to do, turkey to cook, tree to decorate, and Skyrim to play. Yes, I’ve been utterly attached to Skyrim (PC) since Christmas – I’ve already got Graphical Enhancement mods (list below)!
However, this is not a post about Christmas, or Skyrim. Many of you have asked me about my launcher since my last post where I ominously posted that it may be one of the last versions. I know that many of you still use it, and have features that you would like to see added. Still, the code is pretty horrible – it really needs a re-code. I may continue to update it with bug fixes and security fixes, but as for features I’m afraid that’s out of the question. But don’t worry; I have a solution.
I plan to make a new, more powerful, and generic launcher. This would have the following features:
- A new user interface, designed more around being an “editor” of sorts, than space-saving.
- The ability to specify both the executable file, and command-line arguments.
- A Plugin API – to allow profile-type-specific actions (Ex: clearing the cache of wow, and writing user-defined text to a file).
- The ability to import and export profiles.
- Update Channels – You will be able to use either the Release build, or the Beta build which is far more cutting-edge, but unstable.
- The ability to upload, download, rate, and comment on profiles via a built-in Community window (or site?).
Now keep in mind, some of these features may not make the cut, or will be seen later rather than sooner. The first step is to get a basic working copy out first.
As promised, here is my list of Skyrim graphical modifications I’m currently using:
- AOF Believable Hair -Female and Male- by AnOldFriend
- Improved NPC Clothing – High Res by BaronDavid
- Lush Grass by OpticShooter
- Skyrim HD – 2K Textures by NebuLa
- XCE – Xenius Character Enhancement by Xenius
- Glowing Ore Veins 300 by Baratan
- Lush Trees by OpticShooter
- Kerplunk – Watery Rocks by OpticShooter
- Enhanced Blood Textures by dDefinder
- Weapon Retexture Project – WRP by Millenia
- Sky Boost by Alexander Blade
