With Noblegarden going on, there’s a few achievements related to it that have proved difficult to obtain.. particularly “Shake Your…

With Noblegarden going on, there’s a few achievements related to it that have proved difficult to obtain.. particularly “Shake Your Bunny-Maker“.

One of the main problems is that people get transformed into a bunny after they get a few eggs, so you cannot tell if their character is male or female. Which, as I’m sure you can imagine makes it tiresome to ask each and every one if they can take off their bunny transformation so you can apply the ears if they’re female.

So, I made a little addon (my first) that does a small edit to the tooltip you see when you mouse-over players. It will replace the “Level xx race class (Player)” line with “Level xx gender race class (Player)”.

I’ve uploaded this to WoWInterface. If you check it out, let me know what you think!

Just a heads up everyone.

The next time you run my WoW Launcher you’ll be prompted to update. This update includes support for the 64-bit version of the game.

If you have the 64-bit binary files in the WoW directory, and through the official WoW launcher have it setup to not use the 32-bit client then my WoW Launcher will run the 64-bit version instead. If the 64-bit version does not exist, but it’s setup to use the 64-bit version, it’ll use the 32-bit version as a fallback.

This only matters of course, if you do not use the “use Launcher” option.

Have fun!

This update adds a small server check when you launch a realm, to see if it’s online or not. It does this by parsing the “set realmlist” line, and even supports custom ports (“:port”).

You’ll still be able to launch the game if it’s offline, if you wish – it’s just a small check.

I hope everyone and their families had a Merry Christmas! I was planning on writing a special article just for…

I hope everyone and their families had a Merry Christmas!

I was planning on writing a special article just for christmas, but you know how it is when you have family over… cleaning to do, turkey to cook, tree to decorate, and Skyrim to play. Yes, I’ve been utterly attached to Skyrim (PC) since Christmas – I’ve already got Graphical Enhancement mods (list below)!

However, this is not a post about Christmas, or Skyrim. Many of you have asked me about my launcher since my last post where I ominously posted that it may be one of the last versions. I know that many of you still use it, and have features that you would like to see added. Still, the code is pretty horrible – it really needs a re-code. I may continue to update it with bug fixes and security fixes, but as for features I’m afraid that’s out of the question. But don’t worry; I have a solution.

I plan to make a new, more powerful, and generic launcher. This would have the following features:

A new user interface, designed more around being an “editor” of sorts, than space-saving.

The ability to specify both the executable file, and command-line arguments.

A Plugin API – to allow profile-type-specific actions (Ex: clearing the cache of wow, and writing user-defined text to a file).

The ability to import and export profiles.

Update Channels – You will be able to use either the Release build, or the Beta build which is far more cutting-edge, but unstable.

The ability to upload, download, rate, and comment on profiles via a built-in Community window (or site?).

Now keep in mind, some of these features may not make the cut, or will be seen later rather than sooner. The first step is to get a basic working copy out first.

As promised, here is my list of Skyrim graphical modifications I’m currently using:

I really need to stop getting myself involved in projects that I’m attracted to primarily due to the nostalgia I feel when I think about it, and previous projects I’ve been a part of like it. Some things truly are, meant to stay dead. When revived, they seem to never bode well for two reasons:

Extremely high expectations – People will expect what they believe they remember from days past, they’ll want to relive their childhoods.

The people involved in the revive tend to be reviving it for the wrong reasons.

When I say wrong reasons, I’m not talking money or anything like that. I’m referring to how many people don’t get involved in a project solely because they’re interested in the process of making and/or working on it. They’re there looking forward, too far forward. They’re working towards a goal – the “making” of it is only a means to an end (that can never be reached). This seems to be a good way to fail.

I recently was part of a group that tried to revive a gaming community that we all remembered with smiles on our faces. While we had good intentions, it was executed horribly. And in doing so, we tarnished the name. For the people who did return, that community will never be the same. It would almost have been better to not have tried at all. Yet, initially – it was a blast. A lot of that old nostalgia came racing back in full force for a lot of people involved. One thing led to another however. Once you take a step down the wrong road it’s hard to return. Each time we tried to right our wrongs, we only seemed to make it worse. People started leaving. The place was dead before it hit the ground.

Sometimes, it’s best to let things stay as memories. The things that made it special were the people, the time, and the place. These are things that would be nearly impossible to recreate. And if you succeeded to recreate it, who’s to say you would like it still? Since that place was alive, you’ve grown and changed as a person.

Be smart and think twice before you enter any kind of revival for a long-dead project of any kind, no matter your reasoning.

I wish I had.
